Parkland View Apartments in Breinigsville, PA Review - The Fun Continues

I moved into my building at Parkland View the first week of September. It is now the first week of November and the area around my building is still under construction. Here’s what happened in October.

On Thursday, October 17th, we got the following email:

Parkland View tenants:

We are getting the roads repaired and re-paved. They are starting the repairing Monday the 19th and continuing on Tuesday the 20th. They are paving on Wednesday the 21st. They will be doing this in sections. We will let you know when they will be in your section. Please keep checking your email and we will keep you updated! Thank you! If you have any questions please feel free to call at the office!

Now, we never got another email about this whole paving thing. In fact, paving never happened that week. Flyers ended up getting posted on the door to the building only, but then there was some rain and the paving never happened.

On Thursday, October I woke up to a lot of noise outside and looked out to see the paving crew…and my car in the way. Imagine my surprise! I got dressed and ran outside to move the car and noticed a new note on the door that had to have been placed there after 5 p.m. (which was the last time we had entered the building). When I got back inside the phone was ringing….at 8:25 a.m. It was the apartment office asking me to move the car. I told that that I had just moved it and had not seen the note on the door as we had been in the apartment since 5 p.m. Supposedly an email was also sent out but neither of us received that one. Ah, gotta love the incompetence.

Keep in mind that my phone call was at 8:25 a.m. (before telemarketers are allowed to call you) - and the freaking paving didn’t start until after noon!!!!! What the hell? And of course, they stopped promptly at 5 p.m. and didn’t get much finished.

Friday afternoon we got the following email from the apartment office:

Attention Tenants!!! Due to the weather not cooperating with our paving schedule, we are sending out another schedule! Monday night please park your car behind the buildings. Again this is weather permitting! They will begin paving 7 am Tuesday morning! Thank you!

Yesterday, a note appeared on the door to the building telling us that paving would begin on Tuesday and to park behind the building.

Around noon today, I started hearing the paving trucks outside. Yep, they’re here and parked right in front of the building. Joy. So, I was sitting here waiting on a call from the office since my car is in the lot. That call just came.

Now, the story is that the paving for our building will be done tomorrow and that we can no longer park behind the building as they are going to pave that too. Instead, we have to park behind or on the side of the clubhouse. Why there? Because someone had the genius idea to also pave the circle entrance drive tomorrow, which means that the only way out of the complex is by building A, which is way the hell down at the far end of the complex.

Again, I wonder why this apartment complex thought it was a good idea to rent out apartments in buildings that were clearly not ready for habitation. I mean, for Christ’s sake, I’ve been here two months now and my building is still not complete, hence the paving tomorrow. I would advise anyone looking in this area to avoid Parkland View Apartments in Breinigsville, PA.

Nevermind that fact that, in my opinion, this place was thrown together quickly and shoddily. The door handle for our bathroom came off by itself yesterday. And the toilet paper holder is so barely attached to the wall that any time you move the roll it wants to fall out of the wall and onto the floor. And those are just the new problems as of this week.

Ah, Parkland View Apartments in Breinigsville, PA - I’m *so* glad that I have 10 more months left on my lease with you wankers.

uh oh. I just signed a lease with these people. What else can you tell me that I should know before I move in?

In my opinion, the place is not exactly living up to the “luxury” name. Recent things wrong with the apartment include cracks appearing in the walls, which is really odd. They are all near corners. And every place where the wood trim meets another piece of trim along the floor whatever was holding the piece together is practically disintegrating. While it is unsightly, I am more concerned about being charged for this shoddy work when I move out. There have also been 2 construction workers hanging out on my patio this past week.

Just hope that your building is actually completed & that the road is all paved in front of it. And I hope you aren’t moving into the building that has the port-a-pottys infront of it :) Ewww.

The maintenance guy IS really great though and can be reached via the emergency # (that is his cell). I’ve seen a lot of him and am glad he’s such a nice guy.

Hope your experience starts out better than mine!

Shawna,

I’m normally not the type to post up online and such..but wow…your whining got to me I must say…

First off I live right across the street and I’ve seen the construction from day one till now and I gotta say

lets start by what you said here.. “Again, I wonder why this apartment complex thought it was a good idea to rent out apartments in buildings that were clearly not ready for habitation”

Are you serious? were you blind folded when you went to check out the apartment before you signed your lease? Did you not see that the entire complex is under construction? Did you think because you happen to move there, a damn Genie will appear and poooofff.. Construction complete!. The second coating of paving was obviously not done by your area, did you think they were gonna lift your car quietly and pave under it without the need to disturb your Majesty?…I’m not even sure what you’re complaining about, other than the insufficient time they gave you to move the car..is it really that big of deal? Big projects like this often have many, many delays and mis-communications simply because of the amount of people involved in it. I can understand if say, a construction person dinged your car while paving around it or something, but they called you to ask you to move it..
If you didn’t want to deal with this construction headache (if you want call it that)..why did you move in the middle of it?..I mean there are 26 buildings not including the club house, Until now, there are quite a few of them that only have the foundation in, how did you not see that it is under construction and will be for at least another 6 months?
And oh, what do you mean…” Because someone had the genius idea to also pave the circle entrance drive tomorrow, which means that the only way out of the complex is by building A, which is way the hell down at the far end of the complex”

What building are you in? Venus? the entire complex is very compact and Building A exit is literally 10 seconds away from the “circle entrance” http://www.parklandview.com/siteplan.html …and what do you want them to do? Have the construction crew bring all their paving equipment on another day that works best for your schedule? (god forbid you use the other entrance that day)

And you know what? I actually happen to like this place a lot and will be moving there once my current lease is up
But hey, if this negative feedback was an attempt to keep new people from coming to live in your great complex, although selfish, I respect it (not much of a people person myself)..and I will probably delete my post once I move there…:)

Regards,

Your future neighbor

M77,

I’m glad my “whining” inspired you to be so wordy.

I mentioned it in an earlier post that you may have missed, but I moved to the complex from 2,000 miles away without visiting it. I relied on what I was told over the phone, which in my opinion was purposely misleading information. In fact, I was told that only one unit in the size that I ended up taking was left for rent. This lead me to believe that the complex was entirely done with construction. Obviously, that is far from the truth.

And no, I would not have moved “into the middle of it” if I had been properly informed of the state of the apartment complex.

You can call it whining if you like, but the fact is that so-called “luxury” complexes should not inconvenience renters in the manner that this complex did repeatedly for the first 2 months of my lease.

If you like the place so much, then you shouldn’t mind the inconveniences at the complex and the like. Apparently we just have different standards as to what defines a luxury apartment complex.

When I moved to Fl for a week, I researched the apts. I wanted it and narrowed it down to 5. I visited 4 of them on a weekend before I moved in and made my choice and got the paperwork done.. it was about 1200 miles away. My buddy just move to Vegas, he stayed in a hotel, motel actually for 4 days before he picked the place he wanted to live in.
Point is, place may look nice in pics, but it could be right next to a railroad or a farm that has a foul smell. Do you think they’re misleading by not mentioning that in the add or over the phone? This is why it has to be seen in person before you move in, its actually hard to believe that anyone can sign a lease from 2000 miles away without ever seeing it or at minimum talking to a friend/relative that lives in the area..and there is really no excuse for it.
I read your other post about the construction guys hanging out in your patio and such, and THAT IS legit complaint! That would have pissed me off a whole lot, I honestly would have walked out with my 12 gauge in hand asking if they’re looking for something, they WILL get my point.
If contacting the office didn’t do much, call the cops, they respond very quickly around here, tell them that you saw two guys on your patio and you got scared and thought they might try and break in. Just having the police show up is enough to stop the morons from doing it again and for the office to take notice and take you seriously and have a talk with the general contractor about the guys working for him.
In any case, best of luck in your stay there, things seems to have settled down a bit and the construction is concentrated mainly on the east side of the complex. shouldn’t be too bad now

Hi Shawna,

The building that I am planning to move into has finished construction. However, I am concern about the fact that there are other buildings under construction. How will that affect me as a tenant living there? Has it affect you?

How is their leasing office in responding to issues? Do they clear out the road and walk path during snow blizzard?

Are there any other negatives that I should be aware of?

Your insight in truly appreciated.

TL,
In my experience here, these are things I experienced that you may as well…

Is the parking lot freshly paved by your bldg? If not, you will have to move your car for that at some point. How close is an under construction bldg to yours? If nearby, you may get workers in the lobby area using the outlets or eating lunch on your patio using your outlet (if you’re on ground floor). Once there is no construction right by your bldg you won’t notice anything but the noise from them hammering and such.

Guys on little mini-bulldozier things attempt to move snow when it falls. Typically they start at like 3am and if you’re on the ground floor its loud! This most recent snow storm they shoveled the patios for ground floor people. The big snow storm prior to this they weren’t so great, so it really seems to vary. They make sure areas by the leasing office are the most clear, of course.

If you want to use the workout room after hours, make sure your keyfob opens the doors as mine didn’t and I had to get it fixed.

The maintenance guy is great about responding to issues but there is one girl in the office that isn’t very good about letting him know when you have a maintenance problem.

Be sure to really inspect your apartment with a fine tooth comb when you move in since you will get charged for things when you leave. I didn’t notice how many places on my walls the painters had actually missed when I did my inspection! I also have a lot of chipped wood on the door trims and baseboards of the rooms.

Best of luck!

Hi Shawna,

Thank you for all your feedback above. It is very valuable.

I already have a negative feeling about the efficiency and competency of the leasing office. Hopefully with these new buildings, there won’t be too many repairs required.

Stay warm! Thanks again!
